Of Hormones, Madu Kelulut and Tongkat Ali #2
Over the last year I started to notice my muscle mass start to disappear. My thighs got skinnier and my bum started disappearing so my pants looked loose. Another thing I noticed was that my drive to do my morning exercise started to slow down...I wanted to sleep in a bit more. In fact my drive to do ANYTHING started to lessen. Morning erections started to become a memory. I could not even remember when I woke up with one. Even my pee started to slow down to a disappointing slow stream. Any my libido started to lessen. Sex became less and less frequent. Having a strong erection became a chore. My family told me I was cranky and irritable too.
I started researching this matter and came across a book by Dato Prof Tan Hui Meng, a specialist in Urology. It is called TESTOSTERONE Secret to Healthy Aging for Men. Just a small easy to read book which I devoured in 2 days. Bottom line was that my age was causing my testosterone to be lesser than normal. This was confirmed by a test I did at Pathlab. The book taught me a few things though about testosterone (please note that this blog is for guys so I am going to skip the testosterone for girls part).
FUNCTIONS OF TESTOSTERONE
- It gives you your "maleness"
- It helps build muscle and bone
- It makes you feel good
- It helps you lose fat
- It helps keep that erection firm
The thing I learnt most from Prof Tan's book was that each man is unique and the optimal level for testosterone in a body is thus very unique. There are many variables that can effect the optimal level for example:
- Age
- Body weight
- Body Mass Index
- Lack or frequency of exercise
- Lifestyle - calm or stressful
- Diet
So in my humble opinion, finding your optimal level is part science and part detective work ...seriously. You need testosterone to have an optimal life but that level is very very subjective. The gist of the book is that you have to find your optimal level and this requires that you be very sensitive to your body and also to have a good relationship with your doctor.
I'll continue this blog later on. This is a lot of information to digest if you are not a science type guy. However, I must caution that I am not a doctor and all this information does not constitute medical advice. I am just sharing. That's all.
